Offered Classes

Here are some of the kinds of small group classes Cindy offers. Note that this list is not inclusive - the possibilities are endless! If you don't see what you're looking for, please ask Cindy for creative options.

High School Biology
Main text: Bob Jones Biology for Christian Schools, with additional information from supportive texts. Topics include: the difference between creation and evolution, taxonomy - its strengths and weaknesses, comparative life processes and supportive anatomy of several organisms, use of the microscope, protists, bacteria, viruses and disease, human organ systems, immunology, blood typing and white cell differentiation, genetics, cellular anatomy, photosynthesis and cellular respiration. In the spring, students are expected to give a short presentation on a study topic of their choice. Class includes both lecture and lab. Student must acquire their own text. There is no need to purchase the lab book. Students will need two spiral notebooks for class; one for lecture and one for lab. Colored pencils are a plus for lab work. There is no additional lab materials fee.

Chemistry
Main text: Dr. Jay Wiles Exploring Creation With Chemistry, with additional information from supportive texts. In addition to the Apologia material, students are instructed in how to write a lab report and students are introduced to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's guidelines for being exposed to various chemicals on the job and the importance of material safety data sheets. In addition to the Apologia tests, a comprehensive concepts final is given at the end of each semester. Students must acquire their own textbook and exam book. Either edition is ok. There is no additional lab materials fee.
  Akron Fossil and Science Center
The new Science Adventure Club meets the 2nd Friday of every month at the Center from 3:30 - 5:30. This class is for 5th thru 8th graders, and is team taught with Katie Thweliss. We focus on environmental studies at Vier's Ditch adjacent to the Center, with fun hands-on activities that demonstrate exciting science themes. Contact Cindy or call 330-665-DINO for details.

Cindy will also be a science instructor at the Summer Camp Program at the Center this year.

Physics
Main text: Dr. Jay Wiles Exploring Creation With Physics, with additional information from supportive texts. In addition to the Apologia requirements, students will be expected to do lab write ups and take two comprehensive concepts finals at the end of each semester. Students must acquire their own textbook and exam book. There is no additional lab materials fee.
Earth Science
Main text: Bob Jones Earth Science, with additional information from supportive texts. This course studies the earth and universe from a young earth biblical perspective. Scientific information is presented from the Institute for Creation Research and science speakers associated with Answers In Genesis. Topics include weather (including storm safety and tornado conditions cloud identification), astronomy, land formations, effects of the global flood, ice age precipitated by the flood, coal formation during the flood, and more.

Physical Science
Labs are available upon request
Elementary Science
Labs and science vocabulary on a variety of topics.
Insect Collections
How to spread and pin bugs. Local, state, federal and international laws. The Miracle of the Monarch.


It is also possible to schedule individual labs as needed during the year, including labs for a whole family!
